The Resource Centre manages a wide array of visual, audio and new technologies that are available to all students and staff from the School of Art & Design. Whilst supporting courses, The Resource Centre is also committed to providing support to students and staff in their activities within their study, research and extracurricular projects.
In conjunction with A&D’s IT-Multimedia & Immersive Technology Team the Resource Centre contributes to the complex interdisciplinary network of technologies and practices.

In the meantime, complete the online quiz for the Resource Centre Badge. It is the first badge that you must complete before being granted access to borrow equipment and keys for spaces from the resource centre.
The Image Capture Labs are Art & Design’s core facilities for photography, as well as certain videography applications. Key features are Cyclorama, Infinity Table, Wall Mounted backdrops (white, black, chroma key green, grey), and a range of lighting (flash, tungsten & halogen, LED). Whilst some hardware requires proficiency acquired in specific courses, all students and staff can use the labs with equipment sourced from the Resource Centre.

The Darkroom is set up for B&W printing. The enlargers are capable of taking both 35mm and 6x7 (medium format). There is a single 5x4 (large format) enlarger available for advanced users (Photo 3, Honours & HDR’s with appropriate experience and proficiencies). Whilst the lab is set up for the use of resin-coated paper, the Resource Centre staff can assist in setting up for the use of fibre-based papers.

The Film Processing lab is set up for processing B&W film (negative). Users can develop in all analogue formats: 35mm, 6x7 (medium format), 5x4 (large format). With loading booths, chemistry, sinks, film dryers and light boxes in one space, users can start with undeveloped film and end up viewing their negatives in one continuous process.

The Digital Darkroom enables users to digitise images and negatives, as well as undertake numerous digital imaging process. The space has workstations with virtual drum-scanners, flatbed scanners, graphic tablets & a copy stand capable of handling material sizes up to A1. Advice and technical assistance is provided by team members of the Resource Centre, as well as the IT – Multi Media & Immersive Technologies team.

The Black Box at Art & Design is a multi-use production and presentation studio space, used for teaching, assessment, video or audio capture, motion capture, exhibition, and performance. It is supported by the UNSW IT Multimedia and Immersive Technology team Paddington.
