The Toolroom - Wood & Metal Workshop

Located in room FG04 on the UNSW Paddington Campus

The Toolroom is the go-to spot for all your wood and metal making projects.

It is set up with an extensive array of up-to-date machinery and every hand tool you could imagine.

We collaborate with the Makerspace, and the other workshops on campus, to teach students traditional craft techniques and contemporary digital making methods.

If you are stuck, come in and chat to The Toolroom staff or email us and we can direct you on how to get started with your project.

Wood Workshop

The wood workshop has a vast choice of machinery, power tools and hand tools that are available for students to use for all your woodworking projects.

Our experienced staff will train you in the safe and proper use of machinery and will help you in making your realising your ideas.

Sawing, drilling, shaping, sanding, jointing, finishing…you can learn it all.

Metal Workshop

The metal workshop has a wide variety of machinery and hand tools that are available for student use for all your metalworking projects.

Experienced staff will train you in the safe use and proper of machinery to help in making your ideas become reality.

Cutting, drilling, shaping, welding, polishing…everything is possible.

The Fabrication Space

The Fabrication Space is where it all comes together. It is an extensive workbench space, within the wood workshop, that combines an extensive array of clamps and hand tools to make it easy for you to assemble or manufacture your project.

Spray Paint Prep Area

The Spray Paint Preparation Area is an enclosed safe area used for spray painting your models, sculptures, and other art projects. An exhaust system is fitted to vent the fumes of the evaporating solvents. Like other Toolroom spaces an induction is required before using the area.

How To Get Started ?

All students and staff need to complete training prior to using some machines at The Toolroom.

If you are unsure which training to complete please come in and talk to our staff.

To book in an induction please come in and book a time with our team in the Toolroom.
