Specialising in prototyping for start-up ideas, the MCIC Makerspace is a training, prototyping and project space. Focused on physical prototyping to support start-up ideas, the Makerspace hosts a range of regular events such as Makerspace Safety Badge, Make UNSW Workshops, Digital Fabrication Badge and more.
Access to the MCIC Makerspace is granted on successful completion of the required Badges. The Makerspace Safety Induction Badge (MS) and the Digital Fabrication Badge (DF) cover majority of the machines within and there are machine-specific badges for the more complex pieces of equipment. See the machine list below to understand the Badge training required.
The MCIC also explores traditional artisan making and has equipment for leather work, jewellery making, sewing and woodcarving.
A plastic shredder and injection moulding machine are also available, allowing plastics to be completely recycled within the makerspace.
From bandsaws and drill presses right through to jointing machines and track saws, the Wood Zone within the MCIC Makerspace is well set up for all entry level and intermediate timber projects. Access to most machines in this zone is awarded on completion of the Makerspace Safety Badge (MS). There are machine-specific badges for the more complex pieces of equipment. See the machine list below to understand the Badge training required.
Consisting of drill presses and hand tools, the Metal Zone within the MCIC Makerspace is well set up for all entry level metal projects. Access to most machines in this zone is awarded on completion of the Makerspace Safety Badge (MS). There are machine-specific badges for the more complex pieces of equipment. See the machine list below to understand the Badge training required.
Digital Fabrication projects are well support via PLA 3D Printing, Resin 3D Printing, Laser cutting, CNC Milling and Vinyl Cutting machines. Access to most machines in this zone is awarded on completion of the Digital Fabrication Badge (DF). There are machine-specific badges for the more complex pieces of equipment. See the machine list below to understand the Badge training required.
