What You Will Learn

Bending spoons with your mind not working? You should try your hand at carving one instead. It’s way easier and loads of fun too. We’ll teach you all the tips and tricks to get you carving one of life’s essential objects… all you need is a few hours with our expert staff and a whittle imagination.

Even when things don't go exactly to plan, they still double as ‘unique’ works of art. FYI: spatula, spork, and/or ladle making is also welcome… we don’t discriminate. Learn to use the tools of the trade in a safe and effective way. All you need is a few hours with our expert lab staff.

This workshop provides a perfect entry into learning the different aspects of wood selection; including grain direction, colour, and hardness, and requires a bare minimum of practical experience. Our expert staff will guide you through all stages of initial design through to production and finishing. Everyone starts with a blank of carefully selected timber and ends up with a hand-crafted spoon (or two if you’re lucky).

Suitable for: Everyone who has completed a UNSW makerspace safety induction.

Provided: All materials, tools and a protective equipment

Wear: Covered shoes

Please note: All attendees must have completed their makerspace Safety Induction Badge prior to enrolment. Don’t yet have your makerspace safety induction badge? Enrol in an induction.
