Anisha Sawaid is an emerging designer and artist based on Gadigal Land, with strong ties to her Palestinian-Bedouin heritage. Having grown up surrounded by textiles, she has recently returned to weaving as a central focus of her practice. Her work engages deeply with weaving, drawing on connections to nature and culture through a contemporary lens. She reinterprets this slow craft using creative coding to generate data-driven designs, reimagining techniques, processes, and motifs. In doing so, she opens new dialogues between ancestral traditions and digital systems. This year, Anisha has focused on strengthening her practice in relation to her honours thesis to build a strong foundation. In the next coming years, she envisions contributing to Palestinian communities and diasporic experiences through her research and creative work, with the intent of uplifting craft-based practices that are deeply embedded in culture.
