The studio features industry-standard torch bays, fume cabinets, a soundproof hammering room, and extraction systems to ensure students work effectively and safely. Emerging jewellery designers also benefit from access to the latest technologies—including 3D printing and laser cutting—available downstairs in the Makerspace, giving them every tool needed to realise their creative vision.
The space includes a dedicated Jewellery Tool Room with 50 jewellery benches and hundreds of specialised tools available for loan. Knowledgeable technical staff are on hand to assist students with their projects.

The Jewellery Toolroom is the heart of the jewellery studios, offering students access to thousands of specialised tools to support the creation of their work. Every jewellery student can borrow a Jewellery Tool Kit - a staple set of essential tools - allowing them to dive into their projects quickly and confidently.
In addition to the Tool Kit, the Toolroom houses a vast selection of specialised equipment available for loan, catering to a wide range of techniques and creative needs.
Our friendly Jewellery Technical staff are always on hand in the Toolroom, ready to assist with any questions and provide expert guidance to help students bring their ideas to life.
The Jewellery Studio has dedicated torch bays for annealing, soldering, and hot processes. The Fume Hood Area is set up for safe chemical processes commonly used in jewellery making. Whether you're using acids to clean metals, polishing liquids, or patination solutions, this area lets you complete your projects safely to the highest standard.
The Hammer Room is a noise-isolated space in the Jewellery Studio designed for hammering and forming materials in a safe, controlled environment.
The room features anvils, steel stakes, a wire drawing bench, and a small hydraulic press. It also includes benches, vices, and forming tools to help you create dynamic shapes in your jewellery and object designs.
Students have access to individual jewellery workbenches in Studio 1 & Studio 2, providing a dedicated space for designing and creating their pieces. With plenty of benches available and Mini Drill Presses on hand, students can comfortably complete their jewellery projects in a supported environment.
The Jewellery Studio technical staff are avalible to meet with you to discuss your next project. These consultations are avalible to all students including postgrad and HDR as well as staff and researchers.
