Jewellery Studio

Located in room F117 on the UNSW Paddington Campus

The Jewellery Studio is a light filled and well-equipped workshop and making space where students learn ancient skills fused with contemporary design in the creation of jewellery and small objects.

The Jewellery Studio is furnished with industry standard torch bays, fume cabinets, soundproof hammering room and extraction to ensure students work both effectively and safely. Emerging jewellery designers working in the space also benefit from access to the latest technologies such as 3D Printing and laser cutting available downstairs in the Makerspace to ensure they have every tool available to them to realise their creative vision in this inspiring space.

With a dedicated Jewellery Tool Room where hundreds of specialised tools are available for loan, the space has a classroom and satellite studio space with a combined 50 jewellery benches for students to work from. Knowledgeable technical staff are always on hand to assist students working in the space with their projects.

Jewellery Toolroom

The Jewellery Toolroom is the heart of the jewellery studios, with thousands of dedicated jewellery tools available for students to borrow for the creation of their work.

The Jewellery Tool Kit is a staple kit that all jewellery students are able to borrow ensuring they can get into the space and start working as quickly as possible.

The Jewellery Toolroom has a vast selection of specialised tools available for loan.

Our friendly Jewellery Technical staff can also be found here and they are always more than happy to help with any questions you may have.

Teaching Space

With a dedicated classroom for Jewellery classes, students have individual jewellery workbenches to work from in the design and creation of their jewellery pieces.

The Jewellery Toolroom is within easy reach of the classroom and supports Jewellery classes with Jewellery technicians on hand to provide expert assistance alongside access to all of the specialised jewellery tools available for students use.

Torch Bays & Fume Hood Area

Within the Jewellery Studio there is a dedicated torch bay for annealing soldering and hot processes.

The fume hood area has been set up to allow each of the more commonly used chemical processes to take place safely within the jewellery studio. From the use of acids to clean metals, polishing liquids or patination solutions, the jewellery studio is capable of allowing students to complete their projects safely and to the highest standard.

Hammer Room

The Hammer room is a noise isolated room in the Jewellery Studio, that is designed for you to hammer or form your material into shape, in a safe and controlled environment.

The room is equipped with a range of anvils and steel stakes, a wire drawing bench and a small jewellery hydraulic press, as well as benches and vices and a selection of forming tools to create dynamic shapes within your jewellery and object designs.

Overflow Jewellery Studio

The overflow space is available for students to work from whilst classes are taking place in the main teaching space.

This space still has access to the full suite of equipment and support that the jewellery studio and technical staff offer.

With plenty of benches available and mini drill presses, you can complete your jewellery projects in this space without disturbing classes that may be underway when you visit the Jewellery Studio.

Jewellery Studio Consultations

The Jewellery Studio technical staff are avalible to meet with you to discuss your next project.

These consultations are avalible to all students including postgrad and HDR as well as staff and researchers.
