The UNSW Canberra Makerspace offers a range of specialised facilities designed to support hands-on learning, prototyping and engineering innovation. These spaces provide students and staff with access to tools, technologies and technical expertise required to transform ideas into functional prototypes and engineered solutions.
The Makerspace includes ProtoHUB, a collaborative prototyping workshop for early-stage design and fabrication, and ProtoLAB, the digital fabrication facility equipped with technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting and precision manufacturing tools. FabLAB supports woodworking and plastic fabrication, enabling students to develop practical fabrication skills while working on coursework and prototype development.
In addition, the Makerspace includes specialised facilities such as RoboLAB, dedicated to robotics development and automation systems, and ElecLAB, which supports electronics prototyping, circuit design and embedded systems experimentation. TestLAB provides a controlled environment for experimental testing, performance evaluation and technical validation of prototypes and engineering systems.
Together, these spaces create a connected ecosystem that enables students and researchers to design, build, test and refine ideas while developing practical engineering skills within a collaborative innovation environment.
