Alistair is a maker with a background in both physical craftsmanship and software development. He started out designing and building folding knives, and one of his designs—the Kapara folding knife—was later produced by Spyderco Knives.
He enjoys working with digital fabrication tools including CNC machining, 3D printing, and laser cutting, using CAD and CAM workflows to design, prototype, and fabricate precision parts and mechanisms from initial concept through to finished components.
Alongside this, Alistair spent many years working as a programmer in the video game industry, including Oculus VR development and work on titles in the Fallout series. More recently he has contributed to interactive exhibitions and installations, including the Lego Star Wars exhibition in Melbourne and projection work for Enlighten on the Questacon building in Canberra.
He enjoys projects that combine physical making, design, and digital technology, and is always happy to chat about CAD/CAM, CNC machining, or prototyping mechanical designs.
