CNC Lathe – Level 2 Badge
Demonstrates advanced CNC lathe competency through supervised project work and extended machine use.
The CNC Lathe – Level 2 Badge recognises advanced competency in CNC lathe operation within the RoboLAB at UNSW Canberra ADFA.
This badge is intended for users who have already completed foundational CNC training and are ready to undertake more complex and independent machining tasks.
To be eligible for this badge, users must:
- Hold the following prerequisite badges:
- Complete a minimum of 20 hours of CNC lathe project work, demonstrating:
- Safe and consistent machine operation
- Ability to interpret and execute machining programs
- Competent setup of tooling, workholding, and machining parameters
- Understanding of machining strategies, tolerances, and material considerations
- Adherence to all safety procedures, including RMF and SWP requirements
All project work must be conducted under appropriate supervision and verified by RoboLAB Technical Support Group (TSG) staff.
This badge indicates that the user can operate CNC lathes at a higher level of competency and can undertake more complex machining tasks with reduced supervision, subject to TSG approval.
This module is used to record and track the supervised project work completed on CNC lathes as part of the CNC Lathe – Level 2 Badge.
To be eligible for this badge, users must complete a minimum of 20 hours of CNC lathe project work at the required level of competency and complexity.
All logged hours must:
- Be completed in RoboLAB at UNSW Canberra ADFA
- Be conducted under appropriate supervision or with prior approval from Technical Support Group (TSG) staff
- Demonstrate safe operation, correct setup, and appropriate machining practices
- Involve progressively complex tasks, including program execution, tooling setup, and workholding
Users must ensure that:
- Each session is accurately logged in the system
- TSG staff are notified during or after each session so that hours can be verified and recorded
- Work aligns with safety requirements outlined in the CNC Lathe RMF and SWP
This module does not automatically grant the badge. The CNC Lathe – Level 2 Badge will only be awarded once:
- A minimum of 20 hours has been completed and verified
- TSG staff confirm that the user has demonstrated consistent safe operation and advanced competency
Additional hours or further demonstration of competency may be required before final approval is granted.
