Metal Lathe Badge
Entry level individual training on the Metal Lathes
This training is provided by request only - if you are interested please email making@unsw.edu.au
This badge gives a basic overview to using the Metal Lathes in a tutorial environment.
After attending the Badge Training session in which students will learn various techniques by following a standardised exercise.
After completion of the induction, Makerspace staff will keep a training log of each users progress when they return to use the lathe until deemed competent by way of demonstrating sufficient hours and different techniques on the Metal Lathe.

Once you have earnt this badge you will be granted access to the following machines:

Please read the Safe Work Procedures document at the link below. You will be asked to enter your zID and zPass to access the document. Click the "Declare As Read" button on the SafeSys website, then check the declaration below on this page and press Submit.

Generally this machine does not have scheduled Badge Training sessions. Instead please complete the above online learning components and then speak with Makerspace Staff in person to arrange some Badge Training on this machine.
Please note that due to the complex nature of this machine in most cases multiple training session will be required to become competent on this machine. After attending the Badge Training session Makerspace staff will keep track of user progress via a training log. Once a user has been deemed competent on the machine they will receive the associated Badge.
Book Training
This is a link to book time on the Metal Lathe. You MUST have completed the practical training component to make a booking. When arriving for your booking you will need to check in with a supervising staff member who will be able to oversee the use and the logging of training hours.

Responses to the form are submitted to the nominated supervisor for approval. This should only be filled out after completing the hours and after checking in with the supervising staff member.
