ProtoHUB Badges

Located in UNSW Canberra City Campus, Building B03 – Level 1

ProtoHUB is a collaborative innovation and prototyping space designed to support interdisciplinary projects, rapid concept development, and hands-on experimentation.

This space supports coursework, student competitions, research prototyping and entrepreneurial development. ProtoHUB is ideal for electronics builds, early-stage mechanical prototyping, and iterative design testing.

Access to ProtoHUB requires completion of the Makerspace Safety Badge @ UNSW CBR City. Additional machine-specific badges may be required depending on the equipment being used.

Staff are available to assist with equipment guidance, safety compliance, and project support. Always consult the displayed Safe Work Procedures (SWPs) before operating equipment.

Entry Level UNSW Canberra Badges

Start here to get access to the ProtoHUB at UNSW Canberra City Campus.

Entry-level badges are the mandatory first step for all users. Each badge covers the safety, emergency, and conduct requirements for a specific space. You must hold the relevant entry-level badge before accessing any equipment or progressing to additional badges.

These badges:

  • Are required before any access to a Makerspace facility is granted
  • Include an online component and a practical in-person induction
  • Have no prerequisites — anyone can begin immediately
  • Grant card access to the relevant space upon successful completion

Individual Machine Badges

Machine-specific training delivered as required.

Individual machine badges provide access to specific pieces of equipment within the UNSW Canberra Makerspace. These badges are required before independent use of the relevant machine and are issued based on operational need.

These badges:

  • Require the relevant entry-level badge as a prerequisite
  • Include an online component covering the machine-specific RMF and SWP
  • Require demonstration of safe and competent operation before the badge is awarded
  • May involve a minimum number of supervised training sessions before sign-off

Contact ProtoHUB technical staff if you are unsure whether an individual machine badge is required before using a piece of equipment.
