FabLAB

Located at UNSW Canberra ADFA Campus in Building 18, Level 2 – Student Fabrication Workshop

The FabLAB is the primary entry-level to advanced-level metal fabrication training space for UNSW Canberra makerspace.

This facility supports teaching, student projects, HDR research prototyping, and staff development by providing safe access to sheet metal tools, hand tools, and selected fabrication equipment.

To use all basic machines and tools within this space, start with the Metal Fabrication Fundamentals and Safety Badge.

The FabLAB provides a structured environment where students develop foundational fabrication skills, including:

  • Marking out and measuring
  • Cutting and forming sheet metal
  • Drilling and fastening
  • Basic finishing techniques
  • Safe tool handling and workshop housekeeping

The space is supervised by trained technical staff who provide guidance, enforce safety compliance, and ensure safe use of equipment. Access is competency-based and subject to ongoing behavioural and safety standards.

Where are we located?

FabLAB is located at the UNSW Canberra ADFA campus (Building 18, Level 1), providing a modern space for fabrication and hands-on project work. The facility supports students and staff with access to specialised tools for woodworking and plastic fabrication, enabling practical learning, experimentation and prototype development.
