Please read the Safe Work Procedure for the safe operation of the Symbiosis CNC Router.

1. Please download this file and upload it to Fusion 360. Download the post-processor here.

2. Try to generate the setup and tool paths with the following specifications to the best of your abilities. The point of this activity is to force you to become familiar with the wide variety of toolpaths in fusion. So please get creative, try things, use the internet. Therefore, you are not allowed to ask staff how to do everything.

You can find the tool library in Module 4 (CAM Basics: Fusion 360) 

Stock size: 130 x 120 x 17ish mm plywood

Suggested tools:

• 30mm 2 flute face mill

• 6mm 1 flute upcut flat end mill

• 6mm 2 flute 90 degree engrave/chamfer

• 5mm 2 flute drill

• 6mm 2 flute ball end mill

Please try to do research on feeds and speeds appropriate to the situation. There are good guidelines on the internet. The staff will correct mistakes but will not just give you answers.

Requirements:

• Screw the wood into the bed for work holding

• Leave tabs around most of the workpiece so that it doesn’t fly free

• Achieve reasonable wall finish with minimal chatter

• Make everything accurately, there is nothing modelled that cannot be milled perfectly

3. After you're done, book into an induction! We have semi-regular inductions once every week or two, but if you're looking for a specific time and date, contact the Makerspace Staff to book in for a 2-hour session on the Tormach CNC Machine!

This is a link to the form in which users can submit the hours they have logged on machines as part of their training log modules. Responses to the form are submitted to the nominated supervisor for approval. This should only be filled out after completing the hours and after checking in with the supervising staff member.
