Plasma Cutter Badge
Learn to safely operate the plasma cutter for cutting conductive materials in the FabLAB.
The Plasma Cutter Badge certifies that a user has been trained and assessed as competent in the safe operation of the plasma cutting system within the UNSW Canberra Makerspace FabLAB.
Prerequisite:
To be granted this badge, users must complete the following in order:
- Read and understand the Risk Management Form (RMF) for the plasma cutter
- Read and understand the Safe Work Procedure (SWP) for the plasma cutter
- Attend and successfully complete a face-to-face induction (20 minutes) with TSG staff
During this process, users will:
- Understand the principles of plasma cutting and machine operation
- Identify key hazards including UV radiation, fumes, noise, and molten material
- Apply appropriate control measures such as ventilation, guarding, and safe work procedures
- Use required PPE including eye, body, and respiratory protection
- Follow safe operating, shutdown, and emergency procedures
This badge ensures users can operate the plasma cutter safely and in accordance with UNSW safety requirements

Completion of this module is mandatory before attending the face-to-face induction and operating the equipment.
