Printmaking Intaglio Printing image

Intaglio printmaking creates grooves and incisions below the surface of a plate. Ink is applied to the plate and wiped off the surface, leaving ink in the lines and textures created. Intaglio techniques include dry point, collagraph, etching and aquatint. The Intaglio induction will introduce you to the workshops and the equipment and facilities used to create intaglio prints. We will cover all procedures included in the SWPs: plate preparation, printing and clean up. The induction will grant you access to the Intaglio workshop as well as the Acid and Rosin rooms. You will be qualified to safely undertake the chemical processes of etching, including using degreasing chemicals, solvents, the acid bath, and rosin cabinet. You will also be familiarised with using the hotplates for applying acid resists and inking your plate for printing. Additionally, you will be inducted into the operation of our four rolling bed presses, which can be used to print all forms of intaglio printmaking. Please wear enclosed shoes to the induction.
